“Nestled among the outlets of North Conway, this 18th century barn has new life: it is filled with 300 craft booths representing the work of carefully chosen artisans. Prices are reasonable and the wares are certainly things you won’t find in every other store.”
-Yankee Magazine
We were pleased to receive attention in one of New England's premier lifestyle magazines, which ran an article discussing the merits of major ski destination towns in the Northeast. North Conway earned "Best Town for Shopping" accolades and The HandCrafter's Barn was specifically referenced:
"You've probably cursed North Conway's outlet strip as you sat in hours of traffic on your way back from Attitash or Loon, but you've got to admit: This two-mile stretch along Route 16 has amazing shopping if you're into brand names at bargains. Settlers' Green Outlet Village and Tanger Outlet Center alone have more than 55 stores altogether, including Tommy Hilfiger, J. Crew, Polo Ralph Lauren and Banana Republic. Just north of the strip, there's Zeb's General Store, wich claims the largest collection of New England Specialty foods in the country, and The HandCrafter's Barn, a year-round craft fair with more than a dozen booths. If you take the path less traveled though the Mount Washington Valley you'll find a dozen antique ships and galleries."
-Boston Magazine, December 2005
“I had a delightful visit with the owner and operator of The HandCrafter’s Barn, Chuck Guilbeault. He and his wife Carol were retailers for 33 years and have been collecting arts and crafts together for ages. They discovered the value of a good tourist economy and opened The HandCrafter’s Barn in 1990. It is a very dramatic, very old post and beam colonial barn surrounded by six major award-winning flowerbeds. It is the only craft mall in the area.”
